Soft skills: Leading employees

Conduct employee interviews

Leadership takes place through communication. Conversations with employees are therefore an essential part of everyday management. The annual formalized employee discussions are just one example.

Every day it is about delegating tasks, giving feedback and dealing with technical challenges.

When are employee interviews difficult?

Discussions about inadequate performance, customer complaints about employee behavior, conflicts within the team - many managers find these difficult. The same applies when employees' self-assessment differs greatly from that of their superiors and employees make (salary) demands.

Many managers also don't like to talk about possible impending dismissal, burnout or personal problems of employees. But the situations themselves are not difficult. It only becomes difficult when the manager feels insecure and overwhelmed.

But: you can learn to have such conversations!

Enter into conversation professionally

First of all, you can learn not to have such conversations spontaneously, but to to preparethat one a common thread in the conversation has thought through all the important points and knows what the Objective is accurate. But just as important is the inner attitude with which you enter the conversation: the fundamental appreciation for the employee - and also for yourself - the willingness to engage in discussion and the confidence that there will always be a solution.
